Document Translation
Our document translation tool lets you upload a text file, or paste longer content directly, and translate the entire document at once between English and more than 27 languages. Rather than copying and pasting text in small pieces, you can translate a full document in a single step, then copy the result or download it as a new text file, all for free and without creating an account.
Why translate a full document instead of short text
Many translation needs go beyond a single sentence or short message. Letters, notices, short reports, educational materials, and community announcements are often several paragraphs long, and translating them piece by piece in a basic text box is slow and easy to get wrong, since context can be lost between fragments. This tool is built specifically for that use case: it accepts longer content, processes it as a coherent whole behind the scenes, and returns a complete translated document rather than a series of disconnected fragments.
Supported file formats and limits
Currently, this tool supports plain text (.txt) file uploads up to 10MB, as well as direct pasting of text into the input box, with a translation limit of 5000 characters per request. Support for additional formats such as PDF, Word, and PowerPoint documents is planned, since these formats are common for the kinds of official letters, reports, and materials people most often need translated. In the meantime, converting a document to plain text before uploading, or simply copying and pasting the relevant text, works well for most use cases.
Who uses document translation
Community organizations and nonprofits use this tool to translate newsletters, announcements, and outreach materials for the communities they serve. Small business owners use it to translate product descriptions, policies, and customer communication for international customers. Students and researchers use it to translate longer academic passages or reference material. Families use it to translate letters and documents for relatives who are more comfortable reading in another language, and case workers, teachers, and healthcare providers use it to bridge communication gaps with the people they work with.
How to get a clean translation of your document
Before uploading, it helps to remove unnecessary formatting, headers, or repeated boilerplate text, since the tool focuses on translating the actual content rather than layout. Breaking a very long document into logical sections and translating each one separately can also improve accuracy, since shorter, well-structured passages tend to translate more reliably than one extremely long block of text. After translating, review the output for names, dates, and numbers, which are sometimes handled differently across languages and are worth double-checking.
Copying and downloading your translation
Once your document has been translated, you can copy the translated text directly to your clipboard with a single click, or download it as a standalone .txt file to save, share, or import into another document. This makes it easy to keep a record of both the original and translated versions, or to paste the translated content directly into an email, message, or another document you are preparing.
The technology behind document translation
This tool uses the same neural machine translation technology as our short-text translator, a modern branch of natural language processing (NLP) where an AI model is trained on large volumes of bilingual text rather than following a fixed set of grammar rules. For documents, the system automatically splits longer content into smaller, sentence-aware chunks behind the scenes, translates each one with full context, and reassembles the result, so translation quality stays consistent even across several paragraphs rather than degrading the way older, simpler translation systems often did with longer input.
